Blue Carbon Ecosystems in Trincomalee District
The Biodiversity Division of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the District Forest Office – Trincomalee of the Forest Department organized a two days Training Workshop on Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Use of Blue Carbon Ecosystems for the Officers in the Stakeholder Institutions in the Trincomalee Districts. This was held on 12th December 2024 at Sarvodaya Centre in Trincomalee, followed by a field study on Blue Carbon Ecosystems (mangroves, salt marshes and seagrass) in Sampalthivu area in Trincomalee on 13th December, 2024 with the participation of around sixty officers. A key highlight of the workshop was a field demonstration on the restoration of mangrove ecosystems using the National Guidelines for the Restoration of Mangrove Ecosystems of Sri Lanka.
