Asian Regional Training Workshop on National Arrangements on Traditional Knowledge for Achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 18 and Contributing to Aichi Biodiversity Target 16 of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2022

Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity in collaboration with the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment and the Nirmanee Development Foundation is organizing the Asian Regional Training Workshop on National Arrangements on Traditional Knowledge for Achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 18 and Contributing to Aichi Biodiversity Target 16 of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2022 from 27th July to 31st July 2018, Hotel Tree of Life, Kandy.

       Main objectives of the workshop is 

  1. To strengthen skills, competencies and abilities of trainers and increase knowledge and capacity on traditional knowledge under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization particularly.
  2. To exchange information and experiences on national arrangements and mechanisms for access to traditional knowledge, including procedures for prior informed consent, and equitable sharing in benefits based on mutually agreed terms, as well as to stop unlawful access of traditional knowledge.
